On Wednesday 18th August, SkyTV visited Redbourn Cricket Club to film the grassroots clubs embracing ‘The Hundred’ format for the benefit of their junior members.
U8s Organiser Aaron Stowell tells us more:
"Chorleywood have organised an U8s 'Mini Hundred' competition between a few local clubs and Sky Sports were keen to film a piece that could be shown during The Hundred's inaugural finals' day at Lord's, both on the big screen and on TV.
Ashtons kindly funded the purchase of new shirts for the under 8 players. It really added to the occasion for the players as they all donned freshly printed shirts, perfectly aligned with the more colourful version of the game that is The Hundred.
It was a tight match too. With one wicket needed, the Redbourn batter faced the final ball of the match against Chorleywood's best bowler and “heroically defended her wicket” (the opposition's words, not mine) to win the game. To say it was the perfect ending to a brilliant event is an understatement!"
It’s fantastic to see RCC getting the recognition they deserve for continuing to grow their junior players’ love of the game and it’s clear to see that the event was a huge success all round. Well done to everyone involved!
