This month, we are proud to shine a spotlight on the fabulous Heaven is a Cupcake.
Based in St Albans, Heaven is a Cupcake bake freshly made cakes and cupcakes to order. Whether you’re in need of a personalised birthday cake, a jaw-dropping bespoke wedding cake or cupcakes for a corporate event, Heaven is a Cupcake has a design to suit every occasion.
Owner and founder Lucy tells us more:
When was Heaven is a Cupcake founded? 2010.
Tell us a bit about yourself Lucy: I grew up in St Albans and studied at Herts University, gaining a Master's in English Literature. I like travelling (when I get the chance), reading, eating out & spending time with my family and friends.
What inspired you to start the business? I spent some time in America when the cupcake craze first began after I finished my Masters. When I returned home, I was trying to decide what to do for a career and making cakes has always been a hobby of mine. I started working from home whilst looking for a job as a teaching assistant and it all kicked off from there!
You’ve created some beautiful bespoke cakes for clients in the past. Have there been any particular favourites of yours? I love all of our bespoke cakes as each one is unique. I particularly loved making Hogwarts out of cake and creating a wedding cake for a couple recently that featured the Penguins of Madagascar.
If you could only eat one flavour of cake forevermore, which would you choose? Carrot! I cannot resist carrot cake cut-offs.
What’s been your greatest business highlight to date? Getting my premises was a big achievement for me. I'd been working from home for 7 years and finally moved into my own little bakery. I have gone from working alone to having 5 employees.
If you could describe the cakes you create in three words, what would they be? Delicious, creative and unique!
Finally, what does Heaven is a Cupcake have in store for 2022? We are really busy with weddings this year as due to the pandemic a lot of people had to postpone their big days. We are continuing to grow and hopefully will be bigger than ever this year!
